Brrrrrr..... but no frost

We have been watching and preparing for this cold snap for a few days. Last night was to be the coldest night with lows predicted in the mid 20s. All our tender plants were snuggled by plastic or cloth covers and ready for the night. When I got up this morning just as the sun rose, the thermometer by the house said 31. No frost was visible down here by the river and the water was in full fog tossed about by a light breeze. Things looked good.

As the temp and sun both started to climb, Stella and I ventured out for our morning run and to fetch the paper. Still no evidence of frost until we got up by the mailboxes and the railroad tracks. Full frost was there and it made me very aware of how fortunate we are to be in our little micro-climate down here by the river.

The temp is supposed to climb to near 70 again today so the covers will be off and watering will need to be done in most of the raised beds. Mid-week may bring another chill but we'll see how much of a risk will present itself. Thank you Rainbow River!!!
