Portland and Concord

Portland and Concord

August 30, 2006

We are glad to be back. Though we miss those twonies and loonies, it is good to be back home.

We decided to explore Old Orchard Beach when the rainy drizzle lifted, and Stella was so glad we did. Dogs are welcome on the beach after 5pm till 9am. Many people let them run free. The first night she did her usual run having a wonderful time. The second night we met a little black schnauzer puppy (14 months) who ran poor Stella’s little legs into the ground. When she had run till her whole body was panting, I leashed her and headed for the car. Halfway there, she just dropped in the sand and requested a rest before going on. I have never seen her so whipped. By the time we got home, she had recovered enough to eat a big dinner, have one of Marcia's special doggie massages and go to bed.

Today we packed up the cronemobile again and headed for Concord. We decided to take the “pig trails”, and only got off course once. We are very interested in fall color, having been noticing for weeks now the greens fading and adding some yellow. At the campground in Portland, Stella and I saw some red leaves in the road. Today we saw yellow and red trees in swampy areas, but most of the landscape is tired green. We will anxiously await the flashy arrival of fall.

In the meantime, we have laundry and blogging to do.
