Overview

Entrance from the car park.

Inside entrance-after you eat your lunch.

Overview of the houses and working places in the village. Note how the water comes into this little protected bay. You'll read more about it later. Perfect place to protect ships. You can also see it on the map in the previous blog.

Here's the communal work area. No animals today. I asked a Viking about the animals and he said they have a few horses, but they have been away at a show this weekend. They used to have sheep, but the laws in Europe are such that all sheep have to have a little plastic tag in the ear, and the Vikings decided it wasn't consistent with what they are about here, so they wouldn't have sheep. So, I asked if they were vegetarians, and he said they were not, but that they were great hunters.

"Probably great fishermen too, " I added.

"Oh yes, you can go out in the boat we have and in about 1 and a half hours you can catch many many flat fish." Leaving me to wonder if he was speaking in character or about the present as well.

Here is the tower that allowed me to get the overview electronic drawings (as they are known to the Vikings).
Where's Marcia?
